“What do you believe, and does it matter?”

Does having beliefs help us or hurt us in our lives and our practice of religion/spirituality?    We will review how beliefs can be both positive and negative in life.   Emma Goldman stated, “What I believe is a process rather than a finality”.   This will be the basis of our talk on beliefs as we explore how we can use belief/faith in a positive way to be a happier/peaceful person but how beliefs might limit our ability to grow personally/spiritually.   We might ask, as Andy Taylor did in an episode of Andy Griffith, is it so bad for Emma Brand, the town hypochondriac, to be given a sugar pill without a prescription?   If she believes the pill will cure her, what is the harm of her false belief?   While this episode is just poking fun at small town people, it brings up a very important issue regarding the power of belief.

“Preparing for the Coming of the Christ”

In Unity and New Thought, we use the Christmas season to celebrate the birth of our own inner Christ. The message will look at how we can prepare for the celebration of the birth of our Christ self. In the message we will consider how contemplation, reflection and silence can prepare us for this holy season.

“The Magic of a Joyful Heart”

We so often think the Christmas Season is different from any other time in the year. There seems to be magic in the air that attunes us to a higher spiritual mind. The first Christmas unfolded in silence, in stillness and serenity and trust. Suddenly, the whole world seems to be uplifted by the Christmas songs, the lights and the stars. This talk will explore how we relive the Christmas story in our minds and hearts and lives. For truly, we are the central characters in the story, and each Christmas we reenact our roles.

“Breath of Heaven”

Christmas is the time of year for commemorating the birth of the historical Christ child; Christmas is also of parallel importance to each of us individually as we take time to make room for the Christ consciousness within our own heart. The Biblical account of the advent of Christ (Matthew 1:18-25, 2:1-12) contains much that is equally applicable to our own awakening. The Christmas story is relevant to each of us personally because it helps us better understand our own spiritual rebirth. From the description of the immaculate conception to the encounter of the three wise men with Herod, to the journey to Bethlehem where the holy child was delivered in a stable because there was no room in the inn, all of it has special meaning for us. ~ Lynne Forrest
