Minister’s Message

Spring is finally here: rain, sun, cool days, the time of preparation, of planting, and the promise of summer’s long and beautiful days. This is the time of renewal. The flowers will soon be bursting through the earth faster than we can count them, the trees are poised ready to bloom, and soon, they will be putting on the buds of fruit. In Ohio we will soon see our trees move quickly from spindly sticks to flowering twigs to leaf-filled boughs. Life is asserting itself again, as it does every spring, and we are once again reminded of the eternality of the cycles we so often look at as transitory in our own lives.

Spring is also about celebrating the joy of Easter. The entire universe is asking that we be our true selves. To do so, we must go within to that which is real, indestructible, has never been born, and can never die. Jesus talked about that when he said, “Call no one on earth your father.” Matthew 23:9. There is but one Presence, and that Presence is within you. When our attention is on it, it begins to express as our life—our real life.

Isn’t it remarkable that our busyness so often renders us blind to the wondrous lessons that life holds for us? We are eternal beings, even though our physical shells will surely one day be discarded. This is part of the cycle everywhere.  It happens so that we might find new and more powerful ways of expressing who and what we are. As much as we might hold to and embrace the “who and what” of our outer shell, this is not our truth.

We are more, so much more than what we see in the mirror or “the who” we present to the world. This “who” or persona is really a mere shadow of the truth of our being. The thoughts and attitudes we have learned about the outer can be roadblocks to expressing our true self. We are irrepressible spirit on an eternal journey to more life.

We are the expression of Life Itself seeking the Son-Light of absolute understanding.  Each of us is on a journey that is so much more than this day or this hour, yet which relies upon every hour and every day to be completed. We are on a constant march forward toward a future filled with ever-increasing good. Every time we look back, or turn away from the goal of obtaining a deeper spiritual understanding, we lengthen the journey and make the road just a little longer. There is only one direction – just as the seasons roll along in only one direction.

We are called by the spring of the year to a new growing season, another time of blossoming and bearing fruit.  Let us take this time to allow an even more fragrant and succulent variety to blossom within us. The difference between us and the trees and flowers is simple: We have conscious choice. We can choose not to use the precious moments we have to full advantage; on the other hand, we can choose to be conscious, aware, and understanding of the power of our choices. As we make each decision in our day wisely, we support our own spiritual growth and our path toward fulfillment, and life takes on a completely new level of meaning, and we become that rare garden variety of blossom in God’s garden of life.

Easter is not merely the celebration of the life of Jesus. He reminds us that we are capable of doing even greater things than he did. We love and celebrate the master teacher by practicing His principles, living His teachings, and following His example. When we do, our life shines and glorifies the power, the presence, and the love of God. All of us emanate from that loving presence. When that is our self-concept, we will be able to say as Jesus did, “When you see me, you see the presence that sent me,” and you will experience Easter every day of your life.

With Love and Joy,
Happy Easter
